History of Wing Chun and Sifu Del | |||||||||||||||||
The origin of Wing Chun Kung Fu can be found in the turbulent, repressive Ching dynasty of over 280 years ago. It was a time when 90% of the Chinese race, the Hons, were ruled by the 10% minority, the Manchus. When all weapons were outlawed by the Manchus, the Hons began training a revolutionary army in the secret are of Kung Fu. The Shil Lim Temple became the secret sanctuary for preparatory training in the art. In order to produce the most effective discipline of Kung Fu, five Grandmasters met for discussion and chose the most efficent techniques from each of their respective styles. They reduced the original training by two thirds. However, before this new system was introduced, the Shil Lim Temple was raided and burnt down by the Manchu armies. Ng Mui, a nun, was the only survivor of the original five Grandmasters. She passed her knowledge to a young orphan girl whom she named Wing Chun. the name meant "hope for the future". In turn, Wing Chun passed her knowledge on to her husband. Through the years the style became known as Wing Chun. Its techinques and teachings were passed on to a few, always carefully selected students. Sifu Del Fisher was taught by two Wing Chun teachers, both of whom had different approach. Sifu William Cheung (Traditional Wing Chun), Sifu Dana Wong (traditional and Modified Wing Chun). Sifu Del started training martial arts at 8 years old. In 1990, participated in an Instructor Training course and in 1992 opened the Australian Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy. In 1996 was the Australian light heavyweight Kung Fu champion. Sifu Del has also trained 11 Australian Kung Fu champions and dedicates all his time to teaching the art of Wing Chun and enhancing the quality of peoples lives. Sifu Del Fisher has also trained in the following styles, 7.5 Years Goju Kai, 2 Years Free Style Karate & Kung Fu, 6 months boxing, 1Year Shotokan and 3 Years Kick Boxing.
